今日の「これはなんのことでしょう？」では、cookie を取り上げました。
cookie はアメリカ英語で、イギリスではクッキーのことを biscuit というのでした。
で、まずは biscuit を英英辞典で見てみましょう。

注釈として、これはアメリカ英語であると書かれています。
アメリカ英語では biscuit というと、小さなロールパンのようなパンを指します。
ちょっと混乱してしまいそうですね。

WEBサイトを見たときに、ブラウザにある情報を残しておくことがあります。
それを cookie といいますね。
わかりやすい例だと、「○○回目のご訪問、ありがとうございます」なんて表示するのは、cookie に訪問回数が記録されているからできることです。
ま、最近はそんなメッセージを出すサイトも見かけませんが・・・。
